Manda Roberts, much-loved team member at the Grapes Hotel, on Green Lane in Formby, is ‘Braving the Shave’ in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. On Friday 27thSeptember at 5pm, Manda will say goodbye to her long locks, when a colleague takes an electric shaver to her head to raise money for the charity.
The Grapes has also organised some live music for after Manda’s big moment, with two acoustic performers, Matt Fearon and Tom Edmondson, taking to the stage to entertain customers. Both men have kindly donated their services free of charge to help support Manda in her fundraising initiative.
The team at the Grapes will be on hand throughout the evening with collection pots for customers who want to contribute to the cause. The pub has been collecting donations and sponsorship over the past weeks, ahead of Manda’s shave, and the generosity of the pub’s customers so far has meant she has already surpassed her original target of £300. She now hopes to reach at least £500 to support the cancer charity.
Carol Clare, General Manager of the Grapes Hotel, said: “We’re all immensely proud of Manda and the money she has managed to raise for Macmillan already. But I have to say, I’m quite pleased it’s not me undergoing ‘Brave the Shave’! Its testament to her incredible character that she’s shaving her head for charity and it’s a privilege to have her as part of the team here at the Grapes. We’re all in awe.
“Cancer is a terrible disease that affects all of us at some point in our lives, whether its directly, or indirectly. It’s an admirable cause to take up and anything that we can contribute I hope will go some way towards winning the fight against cancer. The team and I will be doing all that we can to help and support Manda raise money throughout the evening.”
