The Black Horse, on Front Street, Monkseaton reopened last week following a £197,000 investment into the historic North Tyneside pub.

Receiving a complete transformation, the traditional venue’s new look interior sees its seating areas refurbished giving a new lease of life to the pub with a new lighter colour scheme brought in for a more open look and feel, with additional carpeted areas added.

With great viewing facilities throughout all areas of the pub, there’s no better place in town to catch all of the best sporting action live with your friends and family, as The Black Horse enjoys the start of the new football season, with both BT Sport and Sky Sports being shown daily, as well as Racing UK. Elsewhere entertainment comes from the pub’s new illuminated dartboard, gaming machines and pool table, providing the perfect activities for a little healthy competition between guests.

The original Black Horse Inn was built in 1793 and stood on the north side of Monkseaton Front Street on the same site as the present building. Across the many years of the pub’s life, it was regularly used as a public meeting place. Rich in history, the Black Horse Inn has maintained it’s status as a pillar of the local community providing a buzzing place for people to drink.

The Black Horse is open Monday to Saturday from 11am and 12pm on Sundays, making it the perfect venue to pop in and have a refreshing drink this summer. The bar stocks quality beers, wines, and spirits with well-known local, national and international names. The drinks menu also features a good choice of interesting low and no-alcohol drinks too.

The pub is Operated by Ros and Steve Barclay, who are extremely excited to be putting this wonderful pub back into the heart of Monkseaton. Ros previously worked for Craft Union as an area manager and whilst she did a wonderful job, she is looking forward to beginning her journey as one of Craft Union’s Operators. This is a new chapter for Ros and Steve and they are looking forward to further building relationships within the local community at the memorable venue.

Speaking on the reopening, Ros Barclay said: “It’s a great feeling to welcome guests back to the pub once again after the exciting refurbishment. I’m excited and very proud to oversee this fantastic historic local pub through its redevelopment, myself and Steve couldn’t be more pleased with how it has turned out. We’ve had a great response from our regulars on the new appearance and we haven’t stopped since reopening the doors last week.”

The Black Horse, Monkseaton is part of the award-winning Craft Union Pub Company, who were named the Best Community Operator at the 2022 Publican Awards.
