The Black Swan, a local community favourite in Ripon, has raised over £41,000 for a local resident who recently lost her family in a tragic accident.
Donna Chilcott, a local resident, recently set up a GoFundMe page on behalf of The Black Swan to start fundraising for the cause, however since the page has been live, they have exceeded their expectations of £3,000 and raised over £41,000, with the much-appreciated help of the local community’s support. Alongside the GoFundMe page, the pub also has a charity pot on the bar where customers can donate.
Continuing the fundraising initiatives, the Black Swan has also hosted a charity fundraiser day on Saturday 9th September with live music, and a food hamper raffle. The pub sold ‘Football Cards’ scratch cards, with the winner announced on the fundraising day. The lucky winner received a £200 cash prize, and The Black Swan will be matching the winning amount in a donation to the cause.
Operators Sara and Kelly were shocked and saddened by the accident and wanted to provide their support right away. Having hosted many successful fundraisers already in the two and a half years that they have run The Black Swan, including raising over £4700 for Motor Neurone Disease and £3800 for a young boy suffering from Cancer, they were ready to help.
Sara said: “After hearing what has happened recently, we knew that as a community we could come together and raise some money to support an individual within the area. We were not expecting to raise as much as we have and are so thankful for everyone’s support. We love helping people in any way that we can and are so happy with how well the fundraiser has done.”
“The community of Ripon have been incredible so far in helping us with our fundraiser, and not just with this one but also with all our previous ones. Since moving to Ripon two and a half years ago, the locals have been so welcoming and friendly, we are pleased to be at the heart of a wonderful community.”
The Black Swan is will also be hosting another charity fundraiser in September for a young local girl, to help her attend a football academy in France and will have a charity pot on the bar available for people to donate to. They will also be selling football cards to further raise money and the winner will get a £200 cash prize.
