The Half Moon, a beloved community pub in Wolston, has recently been crowned ‘Pub of the Year’ at the Coventry and Warwickshire Foodie Awards 2023 thanks to its homely feel and warm atmosphere.  

Craig and Laura Newman, Publican’s of The Half Moon, were delighted to find out they had won the prestigious award after an intensive entry and judging process, which involved presenting their business plans for the pub and highlighting the pub’s unique attributes. 

After getting through the first stage, judges then looked at the pub’s social media presence and online reviews before making a surprise visit to the Half Moon to truly experience what makes the pub shine.  

The judges were impressed by the Half Moon’s cosy atmosphere and stand out menu featuring mouth-watering roast dinners cooked by Craig’s Chef mum and their own spin on a variety of seasonal classics including warm camembert and charcuterie boards.  

Beyond the menu, Craig and Laura have also given the pub a welcomed facelift after taking it on earlier in the year. The revamp involved restoring the fireplaces to their former glory and refreshing the whole feel of the pub with new paint and brand-new carpets to brighten up the space.  

After experiencing the natural charm of the pub, Judges announced The Half Moon as the ‘Pub of the Year’ at the incredible final’s ceremony.  

“We were shocked to find out we won.” Said Craig, “We have worked tirelessly to restore the pub after visiting frequently as customers and seeing the potential for it. Having come from a background in Hotel Management, I’ve always been extremely passionate about the Hospitality industry along with my wife Laura, so it felt natural to take on the pub and turn it into a true community space. We’re delighted to have won and would like to thank all the customers who visit us week in, week out for all their support.” 

The pair celebrated the win by raising a toast with friends, family, loyal locals and the rest of the pub team accompanied by a live singer to make for a memorable evening.  

The Half Moon is hosting a Christmas fayre on the 17th of December at 2pm – 4pm followed by a Michael Bublé tribute act, mulled wine and lots more so keep an eye on their website and Facebook for more information.
