The Lamb Inn on Lamb Yard in Norwich has been named the best pub in Norfolk in the National Pub & Bar Awards, putting it in the running to win the title of National Pub & Bar of the Year!

As one of 94 county winners throughout the UK, the Lamb Inn will automatically go through to the next stage of the competition, when 15 regional winners, and the winner of the highly coveted title of ‘National Pub & Bar of the Year 2019’, will be announced. The awards will be presented by journalist and food critic, Jay Rayner, at the Grand Final which takes place on Wednesday 22nd May at BAFTA in London.

The Lamb Inn is an oasis in the heart of the city and the second oldest pub in the centre of Norwich; the historic listed building dates back to the 12th century. In 2017, it underwent a major refurbishment – £350,000 was invested in the business, which revitalised the pub and saw the outside area transformed into a beautiful courtyard, fully equipped with heaters during cold spells and parasols in the summer.

Known for its friendly, approachable staff, The Lamb has a strong following on social media. The star of the pub’s Instagram and Facebook page is Henry, the pub cat, who is the epitome of The Lamb; personable, laid back, loving – and a bit of a looker despite his old age!

Cask Marque accredited, the Lamb Inn works closely with local brewers, Woodfordes Brewery, Adnams, Lacons and Redwell and regularly rotates its Craft and Cask ranges. It also offers an extensive range of wine and spirits and a menu which caters for all the family, with daily food offers.

Live music is a big focus for the venue, particularly during the summer months when bands, DJ’s and all day parties take place in the courtyard. Ed Sheeran even performed at the pub before he became a global mega-star!

General Manager of the Lamb Inn, Oliver McErlain, said: “We are thrilled that we’ve made the cut! The whole team has worked extremely hard to achieve the success we’ve had so far. Without them, their amazing personalities, fantastic work ethic – and just being out and out nice people, this business wouldn’t be what it is today. I’m very proud of my staff for delivering the Lamb Inn’s potential.

“We’re keeping everything crossed that we make it through to the next stage, which would see us winning the title of ‘Best Pub & Bar in the East of England’ if we come out top in the regional finals and even (we hope!) winner of National Pub & Bar of the Year for 2019!”
