The Old Bank, on the High Street in Sutton, has raised £584 for the NHS by running an online pub quiz on Sunday 29th March. Deputy Manager, Nigel Wilson, organised the quiz through myQuiz and aired it to his loyal following of pub-quiz customers via Facebook Live.

The pub encouraged participants to donate what they could via a JustGiving page and both Nigel and the rest of the Old Bank team were astounded to see they had raised £435 to support frontline healthcare workers before the quiz had even started. The quiz, that was played from people’s homes on smartphones, saw more than 100 members of the Sutton community take part.

Nigel said: “It was all quite overwhelming. My sister works for the NHS and my partner is a support worker and they were both incredibly touched by the generosity of everyone who took part. Everything that the NHS is doing right now is so integral and I think something like this is as much about letting healthcare workers know how much we all appreciated them, as it is about the money we raised.

“I was really pleased to see such engagement from our customers too. Pubs are at the centre of their communities and it’s important that we keep those relationships strong during this crisis. The Old Bank is closed for now, but I’ll be continuing to run a quiz each week from my Facebook account because it’s just something I love doing!”
