A number of local charities in Glasgow have benefited from donations by the team at the Old Smiddy pub on Old Castle Road in Glasgow after the pub was gifted £1000 by the Stonegate Pub Company.
The Stonegate Pub Company, who own and operate the Old Smiddy, presented the money to the pub’s general manager, Kath Stewart after the pub was shortlisted in the company’s Heart of the Community Awards. Along with other criteria, the Heart of the Community Awards searches for the pub that best demonstrates their commitment to their local communities. The Old Smiddy was one of three pubs shortlisted from an estate of 91 pubs.
Glasgow the Caring City, St Fillian’s Primary School, Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund, the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice and the Old Cathcart Community Garden have all benefited from the money which was presented to them at a celebration at the pub.
Kath Stewart, general manager of the Old Smiddy said: “The team and I wanted to ensure that a number of charities benefited from the £1000 rather than just donating it to one cause.
“Each one of the charities we’ve donated to makes a real difference to people’s lives in Glasgow, From the Old Cathcart Community Garden who give away the vegetables they grow to those who need them to the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund who provide a great day out for the children of Glasgow. They all have their own merits, contributing positively to society and help those who call on them for support and assistance in a variety of ways.
“Working with our local community is so important to us. It’s something we enjoy doing and we’ll continue to support them in the future and help them in whatever way we can.”
The Old Smiddy donated the following amounts to the charities:
Glasgow the Caring City – £200
St Fillian’s Primary School – £200
Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund – £350
The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice – £200
The Old Cathcart Community Garden -£50
