Newbury favourite the Old Waggon & Horses is back in business with a stunning new look in time for Pride celebrations. The local favourite will also be hosting a fun-filled launch event across the weekend of 6th, 7th and 8th July!
The canal-side pub has been closed for six weeks for a £250,000 project that has seen the venue refurbished throughout whilst retaining the character of the 1950s Grade II listed building. Work includes a total revamp of the bars inside, with a fresh design and brand-new flooring, furnishings, and fixtures.
The pub is set to re-open on Friday 23rd June with a Champagne party for local residents and business owners. The next day it will be hosting more celebrations as part of Newbury Pride, with entertainment including live DJs. The pub also boasts access to the newly refurbished canal side area, where you can enjoy beautiful views, with chilled drink in hand!
Guests will be able to enjoy the pub’s upgraded sound system along with a bigger dance area and new TV screens. There is also a games area with a new illuminated darts board and pool table, with the pub setting up teams for both.
Pub operator Jake Taylor, who has held the reins of the Old Waggon & Horses for 18 months, is joined by existing staff and new team members.
He said: “We are thrilled to be reopening. The pub looks absolutely beautiful and we would urge everyone to come along and see what we’ve done. We are all about community here with residents and businesses and we can’t wait to see everyone again.
“We are a very diverse pub so it is wonderful to be open for Pride. It is going to be a lively and very busy weekend! With our late night openings this is very much the place to be in Newbury.”
The Old Waggon & Horses will also be hosting an exciting, fun packed launch party from Thursday 6th July – Saturday 8th July. Guests attending the launch can expect some incredible entertainment across the weekend, including red carpet events, white Ibiza night, drag acts, neon old school disco night, as well as flame breathers, stilt walkers and a magic mirror, with much more! It’s a weekend not to be missed, and the new operators can’t wait to welcome old and new faces to the celebrations!
The entertainment doesn’t stop there! There will be entertainment at the venue every week with live sport on Sky Sports and BT Sport shown on the new HD screens, along with regular quiz nights, karaoke, killer pool and bingo.
The drinks offer has been revitalised with the introduction of ever-popular Doom Bar, Neck Oil and Timothy Taylor’s Landlord on cask. New premium lagers including Madri, Moretti and Staropramen have been added. The pub also retains a value offer, is very competitively priced, and is welcome to all, including dogs!
The new outside bar makes it the perfect town centre spot to enjoy a drink by the canal-side.
