MP for Maldon, Sir John Whittingdale, recently visited neighbourhood pub The Quart Pot, Runwell, to learn all about its recent 6-figure transformative investment from the award-winning Stonegate Group.
At the helm of the site is General Manager Gemma Love, who has over 25 years’ experience in the hospitality industry and has run The Quart Pot for over 7 years. Gemma was on hand throughout the visit to show John how the investment has transformed the space and created an inviting community hub for locals to enjoy.
Gemma showed John around the pub to highlight the changes made to the site, which include new fixtures and fittings, updated lighting to provide a welcoming atmosphere, and a revamped bar area featuring an extensive drinks menu including a selection of beers, wines, spirits, and cocktails.
The packed entertainment schedule has also been updated, and now features weekly quiz nights and live music once a month which will showcase local artists.
Whilst touring the pub, Gemma and John were able to discuss the crucial role that Gemma plays in the community, through the pubs charity fundraising efforts, which included supplying clothes to the local hospital during covid, and continually raising money for various local and national charities. Gemma has even been recognised by the British Institute of Innkeeping for her charity efforts and won the coveted and highly deserved ‘Heart of the Community’ award.
The pair were also able to discuss the rich history of Stonegate Group, and the journey to get the pub company to where it is today, along with Gemma and John’s previous meeting in the House of Commons, when Gemma proudly graduated through Stonegate’s highly acclaimed Accelerator Programme.
Before leaving, John was able to get behind the bar and try his hand at pouring a pint of locally sourced ale Brentwood Gold under Gemma’s expert guidance.
Sir John said of his visit: “it was great to see the pub full on a Friday lunchtime and playing such a central part in the life of Rettendon and Runwell villages. Stonegate own a number of pubs across the constituency, and I am delighted to see that they have made such a substantial commitment to the Quart Pot. Gemma and her team are doing a great job and have clearly built a highly successful business.”
“It was lovely to meet with John and take him on a tour of the pub.” Said Gemma, “He was thoroughly invested in learning how the revamp has boosted our presence in the local area and increased traction to the pub. We look forward to welcoming him back again soon.”
