It’s hard for lovers of The Red Lion Newquay to ever imagine it could have got better but from Tuesday 22nd March, customers are being invited to vote for themselves.

News that the most iconic, traditional pub in Newquay was getting a £250k refurbishment came with manager Rachael’s promise that “we’re staying true to our roots,” and loyal customers have waited with eager anticipation to see the results.

Revealing re-opening plans, Rachael said: “We haven’t just brought back what we did before. We have done that times ten and to prove it, in our opening week alone, we have got ten live acts playing and an open mic night; we’ve brought back our popular eight ales but with two craft beers and two new premium lagers to boot. We’ve grown to twenty infused botanical gins, introduced a whole range of cocktails and as for food – its classic, its traditional and local fish IS still the main feature.”

Our local town crier will be opening the doors on the 22nd March, with an acoustic medley of five artists warming up VIP guests, ahead of the public opening at 7pm. Local favourite band Citizen Smith is preparing to rock the party on from 9pm.

It’s a festival of music for the following five nights. Wednesday gives time for Newquay to make the entertainment their own on open mic night; Emerald take to the stage on Thursday; arguably Cornish’s greatest ska band Rudi’s Message will command Friday; and just to prove live bands are here to stay, Stargazer and Cyderfex play the weekend.

The best local ales will be there right from the offset – Cornish Knocker and Betty Stogs included. Local Korev and Sharp’s Pilsner bring in the craft; Estrella and Peroni bring in the premium; and a huge range of ciders from Lilly’s brings in the tradition. Lavender and Lemon andamp; Ginger exemplify the tastiest infused gins and with three times as many wines and spirits, it’s easy to see why we said ten fold!

The careful renovations by owners Stonegate Pub Company have retained tradition, added contemporary and provided more space for diners both inside and out, preparing for demand of the new menu. Cornish fish store, ‘Fish for Thought’ provide all the daily fish specials whilst Rachael and her team, have been preparing to serve the very best in classic comforts such as Cumberland sausage and mash; gourmet grills including succulent British Steaks matured for 35 days; salads; risottos and pasta.

Meanwhile, this local hotspot adds more reason to visit the local pub every day of every week from Cask Mondays with all pints at £2.50, combo deals, curry club and the greatest home cooked Sunday Roasts.

Rachael, talking of her passions said: “I love ale and I love live music – that’s why we’ve planned a huge launch, sending out a huge message that we have fulfilled our promise to keep Newquay’s greatest traditions alive. We’re bigger, we’re better but we’re still the Red Lion.”
