Locals of a much-loved West Bromwich pub have shown their consumer power in persuading owners of a pub to restore its original 1895 title, which today is also their well-established fond nickname for the pub.

The renewed ‘Sandwell’ will supersede the Goose on 10thJune when winning more than just the loyalty of locals, an accompanying £90,00 refurbishment is hoping to win over hearts too with more than just new signs to celebrate.

“We’ve been nicknamed the Sandwell for as long as I can remember,” said manager Trevor McLeish.

“We’ve been teased for years about changing the name so in the end we put it to the vote and it was pretty unanimous with 95% of the 150 voters flexing their muscles saying the Goose has got to go!”

With locals getting their wish, they’ll bid farewell to the Goose and welcome the revitalised Sandwell at the 10thJune VIP night with a cut from the typical entertainment line up during a Karaoke night. Marston’s brewer will be on hand to celebrate the expansion of cask ales and there will be plenty of samples throughout the evening.

Adding to the pub’s sporting crown with its ten HD screens, Sky and BT sports, a new table service during the big matches will ensure customers never miss a score during big sporting events.

“We are the best for sports in the area and being so close to West Bromwich Albion, it’s important we stay ahead of the game so it’s been more than just the name that it turns out our customers have voted for!” added Trevor.

Premium spirits show the pubs diverse customer base appealed by Monday quiz nights, Tuesday’s poker tournaments, Wednesday’s pool competitions, Thursday is Midweek Madness – a party night with fantastic offers, Friday gets your weekend started, and Saturday nights party atmosphere will also feature monthly live entertainment before Super Sundays end the weekend.

A traditional community pub, The Sandwell will be raising money for nominated charity Parkinson’s UK throughout the year.
