A new pub is set to open in Bicester this week with a name chosen by the people of Bicester. The Saxon pub on Sheep Street, has been named in honour of the town’s history as an Anglo-Saxon settlement, which was unanimously voted for in an online competition. The new pub has created an additional eleven front and back of house jobs for local people at the pub as a result of the refurbishment.
Opening this Friday 13th March 2015, The Saxon will be a modern town pub, offering its customers a place to drop in for coffee, enjoy a bite to eat, relax over drinks with friends, watch sport or simply enjoy a great night out.
General Manager, Steven Plast and his team will be celebrating the launch by inviting local business leaders and Bicester residents to a reception to take a sneak preview of the pub from 5pm ahead of its official 7pm launch. Guests will be given a warm welcome with a glass of bubbly on arrival and a selection of nibbles from the new menu to try. One special guest, picked at random from those who voted for the new name online, will be treated along with his or her friends to VIP booth service as well as complimentary drinks and sharing platters as competition winner.
“The focus for The Saxon will be on serving great value quality pub food, national and locally sourced cask ales and award-winning wines and cocktails” said Steven Plast, General Manager.
The Saxon will open from 9am with a brand new menu serving a superb selection of dishes to suit the time of day or purpose of visit, whether for breakfast, a mid-morning stop, lunchtime fix or evening meal. With a choice of breakfast dishes, sandwiches, wraps and sharing platters, customers will be able to pop for a burger or a grill, choose from traditional pub favourites or opt for one of several lighter under 500 calorie dishes.
Dishes joining the menu include the healthy breakfast choice of porridge or the more indulgent pancakes with bacon and maple syrup; a new vegetarian spinach and mushroom quiche, served with salad; five delicious lower calorie choices including stuffed Mexican pasta boats and salmon skewer salad and tempting desserts such as sticky toffee pudding and vanilla cheesecake, available at two for the price of one all day every day.
Alongside the menu, the pub will be introducing an extensive drinks range including premium lagers, spirits, cocktails and award-winning wines such as Sancerre Adrien Marechal and Argentinan Etchart Privado Malbec. The pub will also serve a selection of cask ales sourced nationally as well as locally from brewers such as Vale in Brill and a regularly rotating on-tap cider.
As part of the refurbishment The Saxon will be introducing both Sky Sports and BT Sports with four giant dropdown screens and two TVs offer the best sports viewing facilities in town. The pub will also open with a packed schedule of entertainment throughout the week including a brand new regular Thursday evening quiz and live music or DJ-led entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays. Whilst on Sundays, customers are invited to relax over a freshly prepared roast lunch and a pint or two of their favourite ale.
The Saxon will open Monday to Saturday at 9am, closing at 11pm on Sunday to Thursday, at 2am on Friday and 3am on Saturday. It will open at 11am on Sundays.
