Community-focused pub, the Victoria in Cudworth, is celebrating having raised an incredible £5,600 over the past 12 months through its weekly “Sunday Sesh” events. The pub’s fantastic efforts are part of Craft Union’s wider campaign to hit £1 million in charity fundraising through its pubs nationwide.
Every Sunday from 4-8pm, Avis and Kerry from the Victoria team host a series of games and activities, drawing in residents and fostering a spirit of generosity and camaraderie. Resident DJ Shaun Scott has been with the pub for over 20 years and is also a key fixture on the Sunday sessions that have raised nearly £4,000 from the charity box donations alone and an additional £1,700 through the team’s popular take on Family Fortunes.
The funds raised have been directed towards numerous worthy causes within the community, including the Riverside Care Home, where contributions have gone towards a train experience room and a memorial bench. Additionally, the Victoria has provided financial assistance for a number of funerals in the community, helping bereaved families during difficult times.
Operated by Angel Bickerstaff, the Victoria has become a cornerstone of the local community, providing not only a place for social gatherings but also a source of significant support for its community.
Angel expressed her gratitude for the community’s unwavering support: “Our Sunday sessions have become a vital part of what we do here at the Victoria. It’s heartening to see how much our community cares and how willing they are to contribute to causes that make a real difference. We’ve been able to support the Riverside Care Home and help many of our regular customers in their times of need, all thanks to the incredible generosity of our patrons.”
The Victoria’s ongoing commitment to supporting local initiatives underscores the pub’s role as a vital community hub. Angel and her team continue to organise these fundraising activities, ensuring every Sunday is a fresh opportunity to give back to the community. The Victoria plans to build on its momentum with continued fundraising efforts and events designed to engage and entertain while supporting important local causes.
‘Make it a Million’ is an initiative from the Craft Union pub group that started after it managed to raise an incredible £800,000 for UK charities in 2023. This year, they’re taking a giant step forward and aiming to raise a million pounds for charity across almost 600 pubs. The Victoria is a well-loved part of the Craft Union family, and its fantastic fundraising efforts throughout the year will go towards the ‘Make it a Million’ charity fundraising goal.
