Beloved neighbourhood pub, The Woodman, in Ruislip has recently raised over £3100 for two well-loved charities with the help of the generous local community through a fire walk and a ‘music bingo’ night.
Kicking off the fundraising efforts, the team at The Woodman hosted a fun-filled music bingo night to raise funds for Molly Oxenham, a team member at the pub, who is running a marathon to raise money for Asthma and Lung Association. Over 100 eager customers purchased bingo cards to play ‘bingo with a twist’, with the money raised going directly towards Molly’s fundraiser. Successful winners of the bingo games won a variety of prizes which were donated by fellow customers and included alcohol, jewellery, and more! The successful night brought in over £400, and Publican Steve has plans to run another 2 this year to continue the fundraising success.
Continuing on their mission to raise much needed funds for charity, The Woodman Ruislip team and Woodman Pinner team joined forces to partake in an intense fire walk, where ten team members and six eager customers walked over hot coals in aid of the Michael Sobell Hospice. The group walked over 3 meters of scorching hot 500ºc coals to fundraise an incredible £2700 for the hospice through generous sponsorships from the community as well as a raffle with prizes including an air fryer and a hamper. In total, the two Woodman pubs have raised over £6500 for The Michael Sobell Hospice in the last 3 months.
The Michael Sobell Hospice in Harefield provide vital, around the clock care for terminally ill patients as well as providing their family and friends with much needed support. Having previously fundraised for the hospice, it’s a charity particularly close to the heart of Publican Steve and his team, which is why he jumped at the opportunity to walk over coals for them.
Steve Banks, Publican at The Woodman, said, “It is extremely important to me to raise as much money for charity as possible. Bringing the local community together to fundraise in a fun way where guests can sing and play bingo is incredibly rewarding and I hope to do more music bingo nights in the future. Walking on hot coals was definitely challenging but as a team we love a challenge, and it was great to step outside of our comfort zone in aid of such an important cause. We can’t wait to host more charity events.”
The team at the Woodman have no plans to slow down with the charity efforts and have organised another Après Ski Day on the 27th of April where the garden of the Woodman Ruislip will be transformed into a winter wonderland complete with fake snow and ski shot flights. Guests can purchase shots, including moonshine, with the money raised going to a local Dementia Club who take members of the community suffering with dementia on outings including to a coffee shop once every two weeks.
As well as this, ten staff and customers from The Woodman pub are also planning to partake in a parachute jump for their next fundraiser, with all funds raised also going to Michael Sobell Hospice.
