As the gentry rubbed shoulders with female vogue, one thing in common last night (29th November) was the sentiment that the ‘Tivoli’ is definitely defined as a pub after its £200,000 renovation, but the kind that lifts your spirits the moment you enter.
‘Quintessential’, ‘contemporary’, ‘tongue-in-cheek’, and ‘exactly what people want’ were all phrases echoing round the VIP party on Andover Road. From quirky lamps made of copper piping to images of animals in military dress and refined titles like Jane Eyre and Northanger Abbey, it’s a design that’s unmistakably interesting.
It would seem the Great British Pub has just become a blend of pewters, iron and copper blended with tweed, chequers, and elegant greys. Glass ceilings; outdoor courtyard with statues with heated wooden booths; and a drawing room style first floor private room to hire, just some more features.
If you’re unsure whether the quintessential pub is for you, there’s a gin parlour of a vast thirty-eight blends, wine cellar from worldwide vineyards, and alehouse with own name Tivoli Dark by Brecon Brewing, amongst the range of cask from pale to amber and craft beers including Hop House 13 and Camden Pale Ale.
With Spanish Omelette Soldiers, Stilton & Red Onion bites, Burger sliders, and Smoked Salmon & Calamari just some of menu tasters doing the rounds, it was definitely a reconnection with pub food at its absolute best.
Acoustic sounds from Mark Walby and Kim Cypher duet painted an image of many a fine night to come creating memorable experiences the Tivoli of new.
“We don’t think pubs should take themselves too seriously,” said manager Craig Whitehouse, “It’s about discovering a place to meet with lots going on.
“Amusingly, we even had one customer tell us it’s her go to date meet up venue now with so many quirky features to keep her eye on if the match isn’t quite worth it!”
Quite the place that’s different from the place it used to me, whether a Cheltenham racing enthusiast, suited and booted local businessman, dressed in vintage, tweed or parker, it’s vying to be Cheltenham’s classiest pub.
