The Black Bull in Whittlesey is raising a glass and plenty of ‘Best of British’ cheer to celebrate The Queen, county and community spirit this summer.

The historic pub is at the heart of the community and the ideal place for people to come together and celebrate landmark events and special occasions as well as being the best local to watch TV sports.

The 17th century pub on Market Street has two bar areas so locals and visitors can sit and chat over a drink or enjoy a drink in the sports bar area where state-of-the-art equipment means there is premium viewing of TV sports with great all-round audio.

The award-winning Craft Union Pub Company, who were named the Best Community Operator at the 2022 Publican Awards, invested over £186,000 in the Black Bull during its recent refurbishment so the Whittlesey community can enjoy this friendly neighbourhood pub for years to come.

The latest works have seen investment in the spacious garden with additional seating and lighting, although it is known to be a natural sun trap too! Sports are focused at the back of the pub and the large garden also has extensive seating with TV viewing. For in-house entertainment, there is a pool table and dartboard too. The new audio equipment means live music can be played throughout the pub for all to enjoy. Overall, the use of lighter colours and tones with softer furniture has given a more spacious feeling to the inside.

Run by Rosie Burrows who has over 20 years’ experience working in pubs, there are familiar faces behind the bar to look after customers. She is excited about The Black Bull’s next chapter in its long history.

Rosie said: “Pubs are the original social meeting place and historic events and sport bring people together. We have the best of both worlds here now, we are here for the everyday and the special occasions, have a drink inside or out, there’s all the charm and character of the pub with some added modern-day comforts.

“The Black Bull was built about 1630, it has great history but also a great future. It’s exciting for us to be here as an important part of the Whittlesey community – we are here for everyone, whether you want a quiet drink or to come in and watch a match. It is great to be open again. The pub looks and feels transformed. It has a totally fresh feel to it, the lighter décor and new soft furnishings have opened it up and everything flows really well. We love it, come and see, you’ll love it too!”
