A well-known historic Sudbury landmark has closed to make way for a £325,000 renovation bringing all the elements of a perfectly modern yet intrinsically British pub.
The ‘Weaver’s Tap’, paying homage to its textile roots, has replaced the old Silkworm with a revolutionary sports offer, craft beer, sourdough pizzas and tapas, and entertainment from music to retro board games, opening 4th March.
“This is a big boost to what’s been a gradual revolution of the town centre,” said manager Hal Pearson. “We’re the icon of the millennial British pub – on trend day to night, authentic, sociable and diverse enough to suit all modern pub-lovers tastes.”
There have also been fifteen new jobs created as a result of the huge investment.
A launch event last night on Thursday 8th March showing off the industrialised, contemporary look and had Prosecco bubbling over while celebrating eight craft beers and six real ales, and tasters of food that looked right at home on rustic slates and boards.
A neon ‘Suds with Buds’ sign illuminates a ten-tap craft beer and cider wall, oozing ‘social’ whilst highlighting small, independent and traditional beer favourites. Nethergate and Adnams are just two of the breweries faring their wares here as the cask ale range doubles too.
A ginventory of fourteen botanicals is just a part of a spirits emporium where tequilas are as premium as the on trend vodkas. A range of cocktails help make post-work wind down, 2-4-1 Monday to Friday 5-8pm, as does fizz Friday when bottles of prosecco are just £15.
Six huge screens and projector showing BT and Sky Sports; unique Sports Table Service (beer to the table during big games), and Pay-Per-View (just in time for the Anthony Joshua 31st March bout)! promise the best sports for the area.
Sourdough pizzas, tempting tapas sharers and an enviable line up of desserts make for an edgy menu inclusive of the veggie, trendsetter, and crav-able burger lover. The Japanese Wagyu Beef Burger ticks all the foodgasm boxes with oozing molten cheese sauce, wrapped for extra juice and succulence whilst the Sundae Pint of ice-cream, brownie, Churros, flake, marshmallows, caramel and raspberry coulis is just a sample of some amazing treats.
As well as sport, other weeklong reasons to visit include monthly live music; Wing Wednesday with 10 wings for £3; Saturday DJ; and Sunday is a relaxed affair with roast dinner and quiz night.
