Local hub, the Westoe in South Shields has reopened following a £216,000 investment that sees the site transition into a Craft Union pub. The community focused sports pub will also be hosting a Vegas themed party to officially welcome customers old and new back to the pub in style.

The popular pub has benefitted from a full refurbishment including the installation of new audio and visual equipment, upgraded screens and a state-of-the-art dart board area, for any budding darts players to try their hand at.

The Westoe has been run by operators Louise Burns and Mark Stearman for over 25 years and the duo have worked in the industry for more than three decades in total. They commented: We are really looking forward to welcoming customers old and new on our new adventure with Craft Union and are thankful for their investment.”

The Westoe invites the South Shields community to join them for their official launch party on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th September for a weekend of fun-filled celebrations. On the Friday the pub will be hosting a Vegas themed casino night complete with blackjack tables, a magician and a comedian. The fun continues on Saturday 14th as the pub puts on an 80s night, with the very best 80s hits, the pub will be decked out with themed decorations and the Westoe will be hosting giveaways of 80s memorabilia and goodies for lucky customers to win.

The community pub is also set to reopen with a fantastic new weekly events schedule that includes a quiz night every Tuesday from 8pm, open the box every Wednesday at 10pm as well as local darts team nights every Monday and Thursday evening. Heading into the weekend, guests can look forward to a £50 bar tab draw every Friday night alongside the pub’s juke box disco to keep everyone grooving well into the night. The Westoe will also be re-introducing live tribute bands at the pub in coming weeks. To find out more about the pub’s upcoming events and music entertainment, check out their Facebook page.

The Westoe will also be continuing their charity fundraising and now, as a Craft Union pub, their efforts will be also contributing to the group’s Make it a Million campaign that aims to raise £1,000,000 for charity this year through its network of 600 pubs nationwide. Most recently, the Westoe hosted a charity event for a local family which raised £4,400 for Alzheimer’s Society through its annual fundraising event.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the village of Westoe existed just south of South Shields. The village was gradually absorbed into South Shields and the pub’s name pays homage to its village roots and history. The Westoe is acknowledged in the South Tyneside Council local listing of significant heritage assets for its history that dates back to 1872 when the pub was first opened as The Westoe Hotel.
