Partygoers celebrating New Year’s Eve at Weymouth’s popular entertainment venue, Rendezvous, will benefit from additional bus services to ensure they get home safely on New Year’s Day thanks to We Are Weymouth.

The tourist information service, which is managed and run by Weymouth BID, announced that it will be teaming up with First Wessex and investing £2,000 in the local bus service provision, in order to extend New Year’s Eve celebrations in the town.

Although the service will benefit all late-night venues in Weymouth, Rendezvous, which won Dorset Echo’s prestigious Contribution to Tourism Award earlier this year, is expected to attract thousands of revellers as it hosts it’s incredibly popular Quayside Music Festival this New Year’s Eve.

Kicking off at 12pm, the free festival will feature entertainment, including shows, arts and crafts for children during the afternoon, before the real party begins at 7pm with live music, DJs, a silent disco and of course, the big screens showing the New Year’s Eve countdown.

Keith Treggiden, General Manager of Rendezvous, said: “It’s fantastic news that the local BID has agreed to put on extra bus services in Weymouth for New Year’s Eve. It makes such a difference, not only to my customers, but also my team. My customers are safer at the end of the night as they can disperse quicker, avoiding over-crowding, and my team can get home safely too.

“I am particularly proud of the fact that our Quayside Music Festivals are driving investment in local infrastructure. The UK Night Time Industry accounts for almost 8% of the UK’s employment, I cannot believe that there is not more investment in local transport late at night. There has been so much success with the introduction of 24-hour public transport in London, this needs to be replicated in other towns and cities in the UK, not just for New Year’s Eve but throughout the year.”

Richard Lamb, Chair of We Are Weymouth, said: “The night time economy and Purple Flag Accreditation is one of the key objectives in the Weymouth BID business plan and as New Year’s Eve is always a great party time in Weymouth we have been working hard to create safe ways of getting home after the celebrations in Weymouth. We are hoping that even more people will choose to come to Weymouth to party the night away and enjoy time in the many restaurants, bars and clubs.”
