Reopening its doors last week, The George Hotel, a favourite pub amongst locals, has a refreshing new look after a £111,000 investment. The refurbishment has also brought about a new feature wall, honouring local heroes, and playing the perfect tribute to those within the local community who have served on the front line.
The wall of framed pictures includes moving images of current and former local servicemen and women, an idea which was inspired by June’s Armed Forces Day.
Operator at The George Hotel, Dawn Spriggs said: “My partner himself serves in the military, and when we got talking to our guests, we realised there were a lot of former and current serving locals drinking here at the pub. During the refurbishment, we thought, what better way to pay homage to their brave efforts than to showcase their favourite images of their time serving their country.”
This community pub, based on the outskirts of Barnsley, reopens with Friday, Saturday and Sunday night karaoke and disco entertainment, for both returning and new guests to enjoy. A second dartboard has also been installed allowing even more gameplay for guests, including the opportunity to practice during the pub’s Monday night men’s and Thursday night women’s league fixtures, in which the Dawn herself competes in. The pub also boasts a pool table which sees league fixtures taking place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, as well as being used throughout the week by its regulars.
The George Hotel’s décor, both inside and out, has been completely refreshed. The pub’s interior has never been more inviting, providing the perfect venue to sit and enjoy some of the best sporting occasions, and with six large TVs throughout, there really isn’t a bad seat in the house. A fantastic range of quality beers, wines, and spirits with well-known local, national and international names are available for guests to enjoy.
Externally the pub’s garden area has seen a host of changes made, with a fresh new look and improvements to its outdoor entertainment to allow visitors to watch sports no matter the weather.
Dawn continued “This pub is well and truly a hub of our local community, I’ve had our regulars chomping at the bit to get back here and enjoy their evenings with myself and the rest of the bar team once again. We have some great entertainment nights planned throughout the coming weekends for both new and returning guests to enjoy, so I hope to see you down here at The George Hotel in the next few months.”
