The team at Yates’s on Victoria Square in Worksop are planning on marking the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee by fundraising for two charities in her honour.
General Manager Mark Naylor and his team have taken inspiration from the Queen’s passion for horse racing and will host a race night at the pub on Thursday 31 May. They hope to raise over £500 from the evening for Wish House, the charity that raises money for children with life limiting illnesses. Customers are invited to place £1 or £2 bets on pre-recorded horse, greyhound and even reindeer races.
“It’ll be a great night. We’re going to be dressing up as if we’re at the races to get into the spirit of the night. Anyone with an encyclopaedic knowledge and good memory of racing may have an advantage but for the most of us it’s all pot luck as the races are years old! But it’s a great way of having some fun, getting into a celebratory mood for the Jubilee and at the same time raising money for Wish House,” said Mark.
Meanwhile assistant manager Karl Rosser, is taking on a more personal challenge. Just six weeks from the birth of his first baby he plans to throw himself from an aeroplane and skydive in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
“Karl is really enthusiastic about the jump”, said general manager Mark Naylor, “although I think his pregnant fiancé is a bit nervous about him doing it. He’s been fundraising like crazy getting lots of sponsorship which is great. At the moment he’s showing no nerves, but we’ll see when the time comes!”
Mark, Karl and the team hope to raise a combined £1500 for the two charities.
