It’s been a busy few months for Karen Mckie, licensee of Ye Olde Red Lion on Park Road in Cheam and with the Diamond Jubilee this weekend; it seems as if that trend will continue!
Since her appointment as manager of the pub in March, Karen and her team have strived to become an active part of the community by helping with the town’s recent Charter Fair and hosting events such as last week’s psychic fair for the customers and residents of Cheam.
For the Diamond Jubilee, Karen has teamed up with local people to host a celebratory party in the pub’s car park which will extend out into the street. On Saturday 2nd June, the pub will be decked out in red, white and blue as the team encourage their customers to get into the party spirit.
Karen said: “The excitement for the Diamond Jubilee Holiday is building and I think that the great weather has helped with that. The team and I are really looking forward to the celebrations, it looks set to be a fantastic weekend and we’ve got lots planned. We’ll be open from 11am and we’ll be putting on a BBQ for our customers, along with plenty of other activities.
“We’ll also be offering a specially brewed Jubilee Ale using the finest English hops including the special “Sovereign Hop” variety. The refreshing malty flavoured beer delivers a citrus tang but with a distinctive bitterness, making it the perfect beer to raise a glass and toast Queen Elizabeth and her 60 spectacular years on the throne. We’ll also be selling commemorative tankards for £2 which has the official emblem of the Diamond Jubilee logo on it.
“Events such as the Diamond Jubilee bring people together and this is where pubs really come into their own, acting as a focal point for the community. We’re really hoping that everyone will come together and celebrate this unique occasion. We’ve got lots more events planned over the next couple of weeks with the Euro 2012 tournament and London 2012 so we look forward welcoming customers new and existing to Ye Olde Red Lion.”
