Renowned Monkgate pub, the Keystones, has reopened following a huge six-figure investment, accompanying the launch of a brand-new food and drinks menu.

Dating back to 1799, the venue was formerly known as The Bay Horse Hotel. Refronted in 1837, the Grade II listed building is recognised for its architectural, historical and cultural significance. In the present day, the pub resides as the Keystones, York’s go-to bar for the best night out in the area.

The venue closed at the beginning of January for three weeks of renovations, which included a full redecoration and the bar area has been transformed with addition of sleek new booth seating.

The investment has made the popular bar York’s home of sport, with all the major sports channels being shown on the venue’s many HD TV screens. Whether it’s Premier League football, NFL, rugby, boxing, or Formula 1, the venue has every sporting event covered.

Outside, Keystone’s hidden gem of a beer garden is the ideal escape whatever the weather for locals and visitors alike. Guests can sit back and relax and enjoy the unobstructed views of the Bar Walls and Ice house whilst staff bring food and drinks directly to their table.

A full redecoration can be found throughout the pub with the Keystones investing heavily in its lighting and artwork which can be discovered at every corner of this popular pub.

What’s more, it’s not just the venue that’s getting a refresh – the reopening also marks the debut of a brand-new food and drinks menu. The food menu will feature the likes of deliciously cheesy Detroit pizzas amongst other delightful delicacies and the drinks menu will see the addition of soon to be favourites Rumbungo, Coco Paloma and the return of the Cherry Cola.

The new drinks menu continues to highlight the pub’s dedication to offering the best range of beverages in the area with crafts, world beers and cider at some of the most competitive prices in the area.

However, those not drinking alcohol will be able to choose from an extensive range of no and low alcohol options, ensuring everyone is accommodated to throughout Dry January and beyond.

In addition, four-legged friends are welcome throughout the pub, with the venue being a popular spot for dog walkers popping in for a pint.

MiXR users can also unlock exclusive rewards at the Keystones by downloading the MiXR app and creating an account, including a free drink just for signing up. Students can also take advantage of special discounts available exclusively through the app.

Tayla James, General Manager of the Keystones, said: “These renovations align with Stonegate Group’s commitment to keep improving and innovating, meaning we can give our guests the best possible experience at our pub.

“We believe this investment will make us the best night out in York, and not only for enjoying the best sporting action on our big screens, but also for enjoying delicious food and drink at great prices.

“Our new food and drinks menu means we now have an unmatched selection of world beers, ciders, and cocktails, which I believe is the best offering in the area – and just wait until you see our new Detroit Pizza range!”

The pub hosts a variety of exciting food and drink deals throughout the week, with its 2-for-1 cocktail offer available all week, and bottomless brunch being loved by locals at the weekend.

The pub’s packed weekly schedule features Wing Wednesdays, the popular Speed Quiz with craft and cocktail deals on Thursday nights, and monthly karaoke on the last Friday of each month.
